Photograph Album - South Africa, Canary Islands, Madeira, Switzerland and Belgium.
[PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM]. Stock ID: 65168 Turn of the 20th century photograph album containing 40 photographs. 8 coloured photochrom prints of the Canary Islands and 4 of Madeira size 16.4 x 22.5cm. 29 black and white photographs of Johannesburg and Gold Mines in the Rand area by J. Barnett size 15.1 x 20.3cm and 9 coloured photochrom prints of Switzerland (3) and Belgium (6) size 16.4 x 22.5cm. The photographs vary in condition. Minor creasing and wear to the extremities of 4 black and white photographs, one of the mining photographs has a 4 cm tear and some other creasing, a few black and white photographs a little faded. Some foxing on the card on to which the photographs are laid but this has not affected the photographs themselves. Cloth covers considerably damp stained but fortunately this is limited to the covers themselves and has not affected the contents. Hinges split. First leaves of the album are coming away. Ideal candidate for rebinding. Photographs of Johannesburg include the morning market, synagogue, "The Coolie stalls, Marshall Square", volunteers drilling on the Market Square and lively street scenes in Commissioner and Market Streets. The photographs of the mines include "The Dynamite Explosion" and "The Dynamite Explosion. Extrigating Dead and Wounded". A marvelous collection for any lover of photography and South Africa.
