Stock ID: 69849 Black and white albumen photograph showing a procession of bearers carrying 9 wedding gifts each drapped with a textile on which the 'mon' of the wood sorrel plant or kagami-gusa is clearly showing. Photograph itself measures 20 x 26.5cm and the board which is stamped K. Sakakibara in the bottom right corner, measures 32.4 x 39.2cm. A large attractive inscription in Japanese on the reverse of the board tells us that this photograph shows the trousseau which was received on the 6th of May 1919 arriving at the front gate. Japanese Photograph Album.
[PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM]. Stock ID: 55818 50 full page coloured photographs in a somewhat damaged but still impressive lacquer album. 3 images (a young European in Japanese dress, a deer wandering in a park, probably Nara, and six Japanese women grouped in conversation on a terrace) are inlaid against an attractive floral background on the upper cover, the lower cover has the same background. New brown cloth spine, both covers considerably scratched with a few spots where the lacquer has been damaged, all edges gilt, gilt dentelles. The mostly captioned photographs measure approximately 19.5 x 25cm. Notable plates include a view of Kobe Harbour, a busy Osaka street, two mothers grouped with babies strapped to their backs, others show women taking part in local customs, a street seller with cart laden with brushes and baskets, and many rural scenes.
