Nam Bang!
HUYNH, BOITRAN. Stock ID: 130439 Colour photographic illustrations, 194 pages, paperback, quarto. The catalogue of the exhibition Nam Bang! Thirty four years after the official end of the conflict, Nam Bang! is an exhibition that examines the consequences of the Viet Nam War from a generational and international perspective. This project is the third of a three stage project by Casula Powerhouse, preceeded by Viet Nam Voices (1997) and Viet Nam Voices: Australians and the Viet Nam War - National Tour (2001-2003). Both exhibitions represented multiple Australian perspectives, from service and non-service personnel who served in, or came from Viet Nam, to protestors and pacifists who opposed the war. Nam Bang! further investigates the complexity of Australia?s involvement in the Viet Nam War with a broader focus, incorporating international perspectives, particularly from the second generation - the partners, children and family of those of affected by the conflict. The exhibition includes commissioned artists from Australia, Viet Nam, United States and France. Participating artists include Peter F. Daly, Dinh Q. Le, Kelly Manning, Liza Nguyen, William Short, My Le Thi, Le Thua Tien, Dennis Trew, and Tran Trong Vu. The exhibition also includes work from Nigel Helyer, Ray Beattie, Le Tri Dung, Terry Eichler, Trevor Woodward, Nerine Martini, Mai Long, Soon-Mi Yoo, Shaun Gladwell and Van Thanh Rudd. Painters in Hanoi. An Ethnography of Vietnamese Art.
TAYLOR, NORA ANNESLEY. Stock ID: 131045 viii + 176 pages, colour photographic illustrations, index, bibliography, notes, appendix, paperback. "Painters in Hanoi" engages with twentieth-century Vietnam through its artists and their works, providing a new angle on a country most often portrayed through the lens of war and politics. Drawing on interviews with artists, cultural officers, curators, art critics, and others in Hanoi, Taylor surveys the impact artists have had on intellectual life in Vietnam. The book shows them within their own complex community, one fraught with tensions, politicking, and favoritism, yet also a sense of belonging.
