| India's Most Dysfunctional Dynasty? | |
| Tue 11 Jul 2006 | |
| Asia Bookroom is proud to host an evening with author and journalist, John Zubrzycki on Tuesday, 11 July. John will be speaking about Mukarram Jah, the subject of his new book The Last Nizam: An Indian Prince in the Australian Outback. Truly a story stranger and more fascinating than fiction. We hope you can join us!
Fame and fortune. In 1967 Mukarram Jah had it all after he was crowned the Eighth Nizam of Hyderabad, inheriting India's most coveted princely title and what was reputedly the largest fortune in the world. But the western-educated Jah found life in the last outpost of the Mughal empire stifling. When the affairs of state grew too tiresome for his ancestors, they would retreat into their harems. Jah fled to Western Australia to live out his dreams by driving bulldozers through the desert, but lost his wealth in the process. Introducing his book: The Last Nizam: An Indian Prince in the Australian Outback, John Zubrzycki will ask: Did history repeat itself one too many times in the annals of this remarkable but largely forgotten dynasty? When: 6 - 8pm, Tuesday July 11, 2006 Where: Asia Bookroom, Lawry Place, Macquarie RSVP: By Monday July 10 for catering and seating purposes All welcome! There is no charge for attending this event. |
