Sun Shuyun at Asia Bookroom
Mon 18 Sep 2006
We are delighted to announce that acclaimed author and producer Sun Shuyun will be in Canberra on Monday September 18 and she will be speaking at Asia Bookroom!

Sun Shuyun's latest book is a powerful account of China's legendary founding myth The Long March. Her previous book, Ten Thousand Miles Without a Cloud, tells of the journey she made retracing the footsteps of the Chinese Buddhist monk, Xuanzang, across Central Asia to India.

**The Long March**

In 1934, after being forced from their bases, 200,000 Chinese Communists risked their lives to launch the new China in the distant north. In this riveting book, Sun Shuyun follows the route of the Long March, through hostile and often dangerous terrain, reconstructing the story and investigating the myths that surround it, searching for the truth of why people supported the Communists, and why many did not. Sun Shuyun confronts the reality behind the myth, the dreams and disillusions, the pain and the hope, and the lessons that can still be learned. The first Chinese person to write a book on this subject, Sun Shuyun tells it for the first time as it really happened.
