| Shamini Flint Introduces Inspector Singh and The Singaporean School of Villainy! | |
| Tue 10 Aug 2010 | |
| We are really looking forward to Shamini Flint speaking at Asia Bookroom on Tuesday 10th August.
Shamini Flint, is the author of a number of books for adults, and children, but is best known for the very popular Inspector Singh series. I had heard she was a good speaker and have enjoyed her novels in any case but now we really can't wait! The reason? The reports coming from Western Australia where her Australia tour has begun are incredibly positive - so positive I had to share them with you as you really don't want to miss her talk at Asia Bookroom! I have quoted below from an email that her Australian publicist wrote this week. Bear in mind that publicists are always meeting interesting authors and so it can be hard for them to get very excited, in fact I find it is rare indeed to get comments like these! "Shamini Flint has just been in WA this week and everyone who's met her and heard her speak have been blown away by her. She charms and delights everyone at her events. A producer at the ABC in Perth even phoned me just to tell me how much she adored meeting Shamini, and said she was 'funny, bright, charming and self-deprecating'. Our sales rep in WA emailed telling me - 'She completely captivated the audience. You are soooooo.... in for a treat in Sydney. She had everyone in hysterics and that was the serious bits.' So spread the word that the Asia Bookroom is in for a treat next month!" Shamini will be talking, amongst other things(!) about the latest title in her Inspector Singh series 'Inspector Singh Investigates: The Singapore School of Villainy'. If you haven't enjoyed an Inspector Singh mystery yet, you may not be aware that this unusual detective is gaining quite a following! Inspector Singh, an overweight Singaporean Sikh detective, uses his not inconsiderable intellect to solve crimes while paying little heed to the rules and conventions of the Singapore Police Force. The books in this series both entertain and give the reader insights into the cultural background where the mystery is set. 'Inspector Singh Investigates: The Singapore School of Villainy' is the third title in the series. Shamini Flint lives in Singapore with her husband and two children. She began her career in law in Malaysia and also worked at an international law firm in Singapore. She travelled extensively around Asia for her work, before resigning to be a stay-at-home mum, writer, part-time lecturer and environmental activist, all in an effort to make up for her ‘evil’ past as a corporate lawyer! Shamini also writes children’s books with cultural and environmental themes including Jungle Blues and Turtle takes a Trip as well as the ‘Sasha’ series of children’s books. When: 6pm Tuesday, 10th August Where: Asia Bookroom, Unit 2, 1 - 3 Lawry Place, Macquarie. ACT RSVP: By Wednesday 9th August to Books@AsiaBookroom.com or (02) 6251 5191 Admission by gold coin donation. All money raised will go towards the excellent work done by NTA East Indonesia Aid. |
