Black and white and colour photographic illustrations, 187pp, bibliography, little rubbing of dustjacket, now wrapped in plastic covering, hardback quarto in good to very condition. "Moroccan pile and flatwoven rugs display a great variety of patterns and structures and dazzle the eye with their vivid colours. This publication is the first work on the subject of Moroccan rugs in over half a century. Although great interest has long been shown in oriental carpets from the Middle East and China, relatively little study has been made until recently of the equally vigorous weaving traditions of Morocco. Five essays provide the reader with background on the history and culture of the country, placing the weavings in context, and represent the results of recent scholarly study. In the catalogue section, more than 90 examples of every known type of pile and flatwoven rug are illustrated and described. Rugs woven by the Berber tribes of the Middle Atlas and High Atlas Mountains and those made by rural Arab groups are shown, as well as examples of the urban carpets from Rabat and Mediouna."
