1942.
45 + ivpp, bookplate laid down front free endpaper, original wrappers (paperback) considerably browned, light crease in the corner of a few leaves, acid free tape repair over spine, occasional light foxing but contents generally very good and sound. Oblong small octavo. Professor A.L. Sadler was the Professor of Oriental Studies at the University of Sydney between 1922 and 1948. He was the author and translator of a number of books including A Short History of Japanese Architecture and Cha-No-Yu. The Japanese Tea Ceremony. This little text is an interesting example of a text which would have been used by Australians during and after the war studying Chinese. On one leaf Professor Sadler's handwritten characters have been reproduced and on the page opposite the English translation appears. Surprisingly uncommon.
