Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
2002.
Folding map, maps in text, 84pp, paperback. The authors were two young Malay undergraduates of the Universiti Malaya, which was then located in Singapore. Over a period of just three months, in 1953, they captured a picture of the daily life in each of the thirteen Malay communities across river from Kuching - stretching from Kpg.Tupong through to Kpg. Bintawa. Their study gives rich flavour and texture to our understanding, and includes much detail that has been lost in the changes that have taken place in the subsequent fifty years. Their report is presented true to its original format, complete with all the hand-drawn maps and diagrams. This is the first monograph of the Nusantara Studies Program. That program focuses on the coastal communities of Borneo/Kalimantan, in the context of the broader socio-economic changes taking place in the region.
