A reprint of an authoritative book on Chinese furniture which was first published in 1971. In the introduction to this edition Ellsworth states "We are now aware that huang hua-li properly cared for and with little exposure to sunlight is as dark as tzu-t'an, reversing the original misconception that the paler the wood, the earlier the furniture." Through subsequent research he believes that a number of pieces published in this volume should be dated 50 to 100 years earlier and other pieces be dated later.
