2 volumes. Volume I: Folding Kitchin map, [4] + 480pp, delightful wood engraved headpiece above the first chapter. Volume II: Folding Kitchin map, [4] + 595pp. Both volumes bound in a considerably worn full leather binding, repaired along upper hinge, upper cover detached, title label on spine missing both volumes, modern endpapers, neat stamp of a prior owner front free endpaper, lower portion of last leaves and upper corner of first leaves little stained, some browning throughout. Two closed tears on map, lower half of map stained volume I. Fore edges stained, folding map little browned. Attractively presented in a cloth slip case lettered in gilt on the spine. This work concentrates mainly on India but includes some material on other regions including Malacca, Sumatra, Borneo and Ceylon. The first volume, which was translated from the French of Abbe de Guyon, discusses the history, geography and habits of the peoples of the regions and the majority of the second volume, which was originally written in English, concentrates on trade between the various European powers and the regions.
