Double page partly coloured map to illustrate the "Suppression of Piracy in the China Sea 1849", 1 plan, portrait frontispiece of the author, engraved vignette title page, 8 full page plates, xiii + 412pp. Navy blue cloth covered boards and spine, gilt crest upper cover, top edge gilt, corners bumped, some shelf wear, occasional small marks, upper hinge and one small place lower hinge starting but sound, a little browning prelims, corrigenda slip tipped-in before index with a subsequent fuller errata list amending the former has been loosely enclosed, text in good condition. British naval officer's biographical account of his life in the Royal Navy and subsequently as a politician. Includes some interesting material on his service in the Far East.
