First gathering including pictorial title page duplicated, corners of some leaves creased, occasional light foxing, few chips along margin of margins upper wrapper, few neat repairs with acid free tape along one margin of upper wrapper, last blank foxed. Contents sound. This volume presents a series of short essays on Chinese life, art and culture. Each essay is introduced by way of the case number in the Chinese Museum in Boston - for example the essay titled 'Case Number IX' begins "The number of itinerant workmen of one kind or another, which line the sides of the streets, or occupy the areas before public buildings in Chinese towns is a remarkable feature..." and the case itself shows a barber, a fortune teller, a street doctor.
