コリス紙芝居. [Korisu kamishibai] [A Picture Card from Coris Co.]

コリス株式会社. 195?/6? Stock ID #163438

17 coloured picture cards 7 x 4.7cm in coloured cardboard tiny "kamishibai stage" box 9.3 x 9.5. This charming little cardboard kamishibai or Japanese paper theatre, give-away for children was issued by Coris Co., Ltd. the well known Japanese sweet (candy) manufacturer. It seems like to have been published in the 1950s or 1960s. Inside the very small cardboard "theatre" or kamishibai stage there are two stories: a manga titled ”Boku-chan Diary” and a four-frame manga kamishibai. Kamishibai was very popular in Japan prior to the introduction of television after which its popularity quickly waned. This little paper theatre allowed children to play at being kamishibai men at home. As kamishibai men sold sweets for their living it is very appropriate that the Coris Company should be the publishers of this charming ephemeral toy theatre.
