A handsome limited edition facsimile of this classic work on Japan published to the 250th year anniversary of the publication of the first English edition of Kaempfer's The History of Japan was publshed.
The comprehensive coverage given in this early authoritative account of Japan, covering as it does so many aspects of the country including history, natural history, buildings, religion, customs and trade with the outside world, reflects the three years that Kaempfer travelled freely in Japan. The section on Siam in the first volume includes information on the period after the fall of King Narai when succession was in doubt and most foreigners had been excluded from the Kingdom.
