Folding map printed in black and red, evenly browned, small chip upper margin. Good copy. 26.8 x 39.8cm. Map of the Great East Asia War - a map of the war situation around the beginning of 1942, produced as an insert in the magazine Shogakukan Tsushin, the publicity magazine of the published Shogakukan. The map shows major battle zones in the Pacific, and numbers of enemy ships sunk. The map is printed in black, white and red, with the red coloured or shaded areas being Japan and areas under Japanese control (which at the stage the map was produced included Manchuria, parts of China, Indo China and Thailand). A short text panel states that "Crossing the rough waters of the Pacific, our Imperial Army is advancing through tropical swamps and jungles, bringing dawn and spreading the the Rising Sun Flag across great Asia." The reverse of the map carries advertisements for Shogkukan's children's magazines. (When referring to this item please quote stockid 164426).
