This copy includes the folded aquatint print (sheet size 46.5 x 71.3) showing a colourful view of the Potala at Lhassa by H. Nakasawa and N. Tamaki. This print was originally issued with this volume but is now rarely found with it. The view has been torn along the folds but is now backed onto Japanese washi paper and in the interests of its preservation presented flat. Folding chart of route followed by the author at the end of the volume, 11 black and white photographic plates including one folding, 63 text illustrations, xv + 719pp. A good copy of the first edition including the scarce with the coloured print of Lhasa. Account of a visit made by Japanese Zen monk Ekai Kawaguchi to Lhasa in the 19th Century. (When referring to this item please quote stockid 156129).
