69 black and white photographs of Stonecutters Island and Hong Kong in a Japanese lacquer accordion style album. 25 photographs measure approx 10 x 15.5cm; 10 photos 11 x 15 and 34 measure 10 x 7cm. It appears that most of the photographs were taken by the compiler of the album who was probably J.J. Taylor of No. 87 Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery in Hong Kong. There are also 5 commercial photographs included. Upper cover of album shows an evocative scene of Mt Fuji across a lake with boats, trees and a handsome building in the foreground. Album damaged with loss to lacquer in a few places particularly at edges. Album measures 15 x 20cm. A very interesting photograph album featuring photographs of the Hong Kong region at the turn of the twentieth century, aspects of life in the Royal Garrison Artillery including views of the barrack room, "a converted prison now married quarters S'cutters 1909", and members of the Garrison taking part in a number of outings and social activities. The album also includes views over Central to Hong Kong Harbour, Customs Pass, Shau-ki-wan, the Waterfall, Ching-Lan-Chau, some showing the effects of the Typhoon in 1906 with ships wrecked along the shore line and views of Hong Kong buildings.
