Large Chinese Cultural Revolution papercut on red paper with paper backing. Papercut featuring Mao leaning upon a balustrade with Chinese plum blossom blooming behind him. Excellent condition. Blocks of text upper left corner and lower margin in Chinese, papercut sheet measures 75.3 x 50.4cm. On this papercut a few lines from two of Mao's poems are quoted.
Upper left corner, two lines from the poem 七律 冬云 [Winter Clouds -Qi Lv]. 梅花欢喜漫天雪/冻死苍蝇未足奇 translates as "Plum blossoms welcome the whirling snow; Small wonder flies freeze and perish." 七律 [Qi lv] is a form of regulated verse with eight lines of seven characters each in classical Chinese poetry. At the lower margin, well known two lines from 沁园春·雪 [Snow - to the Tune of Chin Yuan Chun] 数风流人物/ 还看今朝 translates as "For truly great men; Look to this age alone."
