x + 264pp [8] + 16pp publisher's catalogues, some foxing mainly first and last leaves, endpapers browned, one leaf carelessly opened with minor loss at margin, pencilled note on one leaf, original green cloth with brown stripes, spine darkened with a small abrasion. Good copy of one of Clifford's scarcer titles. 20 x 14cm. Sixteen tales and sketches set in Malaya. In the preface Hugh Clifford states "To some extent it must be confessed, they [the stories] wear the garb of fiction; but , none the less, they are studies of things as they are, - drawn from life". He goes on to list seven of the stories which describe events which happened in the Malay peninsula in the 2 decades before he wrote this work.
