Maps are in excellent condition. The Japanese translation of C. Richardson's The Regional Geography of Malaya which was first published in 1935. Richardson, worked in the Malayan Government's Education Department and the English edition of this book was used as a textbook for middle high school students. The book was translated into Japanese by Gunji Kiichi 郡司喜一, former Consul General in Singapore. In the preface to the Japanese edition he states that this translation was intended to be used by the children of Malaya as a text book.
The book describes administrative districts, topographical features, and climate of Malaya in the first chapter, and deals with each district and its industry in the following chapters. The publisher, Tōa Kenkyūsho 東亞研究所 [East Asia Research Centre], was established in 1938 as an research organisation to contribute to the forming of national policy of the Imperial Japan.
