Some examples are coloured but unpatterned while others are patterned and mixed with such materials as cut gold and silver leaves, gold dust, and long paper fibres. A number of samples have been cut with loss in some cases to a considerable degree but most are complete. Wrappers with cord ties, stained and discoloured in places. 15 x 21cm. An interesting album containing many attractive examples of fusuma. "Dancing phoenix 舞鳳” is the delightful name given to sample books such as this one of handmade torinoko paper. Torinoko is thick smooth paper made of ganpi 雁皮 [Diplomorpha sikokiana]. Traditionally the province of Echizen [present-day Fukui prefecture] was well known for its high-class torinoko paper.
