[Collection of Thirteen Carte-de-Visite from Hong Kong Studios].

This collection of thirteen albumen portraits of European men and women and one of a child ("Maggie Watson Bain/age 6 months/March 1884") together with an image showing a group of four adult Chinese people together with a child seated around a table playing cards were published by ten Hong Kong photographic studios, of which eight are named and one anonymous, in the latter part of the 19th century.

The CDV of the Chinese card players does not show a studio name however "Playing cards/Hong Kong/26th May '67" is written in ink on the reverse. The studios represented in this collection are Afong (5); Hing Cheong (1); See Tay (2); H.R. Howell(2); W.P. Floyd (1): Kai-Sack (1); Hongkong Photographic Rooms (1); Hong Cheong Shing (1). A number of the cards have been annotated on the reverse with dates and occasionally with the name of the person whose portrait the photograph shows.

Three photographs are considerably faded, a few others show some but less significant fading, some scuffing on two and some occasional spotting. Cards measure 6.3 x 10.5cm.
