Interesting collection of twenty-five photographs of Japan.
Ten albumen photographs (most 20 x 26cm, four approximately 21 x 27cm) by Ogawa Sashichi and others, most showing scenes around Tokyo and Yokohama measuring laid down on card, four are coloured. Nine of these photographs are captioned either by the studio itself or in two cases in pencil on the reverse of the card. The coloured images show fading while those in black and white are in better condition.
Fifteen smaller photographs (most 9.5 x 13.5cm) of which six are in colour. Seven are commercial photographs showing Japanese women and one of Mt. Fuji, the remaining eight photographs appear to have been privately taken and are captioned in ink on the reverse. Some browning and fading, upper corner of card backing on one photo torn with loss not affecting the photograph. All but one of these smaller photographs show Japanese scenes or people and were taken in Japan. Curiously included in this collection is a photograph captioned on the reverse "General View of Petropolis. (Japanese legation near church at back on left) all other images were taken in Japan.
