Ten delightful delicate hand coloured illustrations showing the processes involved in the making of silk from the silkworm to the finished material with explanations opposite in traditional Chinese and English. Bound in concertina fashion in wooden boards. Chinese character 福 [Fortune] in green carved into upper cover, paper title label laid down inside upper cover. Endpapers a trifle foxed, otherwise very good. 20.4 x 14.8cm. Bilingual Chinese and English text. These accordion bound wood covered volumes of Chinese beliefs, practices or history are not infrequently seen but although a quick look suggests that there are many, as we deal in these over a longer period we have begun to realise how the same title in the series can differ between editions. The title and binding is the same clearly recognisable wood covered accordion Chinese binding with a character for Fu or Happiness in green carved into the upper board. However although some of the illustrations and text within are the same, the number of illustrations, what the illustrations depict, the depiction itself and sometimes the text itself can vary.
