15 double folded crepe paper leaves, coloured woodblock illustrations throughout, join along folded leaf between upper cover and copyright leaf split. "Ralph Nicholls Oct. '32" neatly written in ink on preface leaf. Pictorial creped wrappers, with two thread ties of which one has been repaired, upper cover worn with a little loss at lower corner and some abrasion along edges, silk on spine damaged with loss, lower cover a little foxed. Contents very good. 15 x 19.8cm. Old Chinese poem in English translation published by the master of the crepe paper book Hasegawa. The Rat's Plaint is one of Hasegawa's less common works. This copy is a variant of the second edition (Baxley A2a) with Hasegawa's address at the time of printing as book the illustration following the preface has the following inscription at the bottom middle: "Translated from the Original Chinese by Archibald Little, F.R.G.S."
