Colour plate tipped on to patterned paper backing, captioned below in Japanese and English with a more detailed bilingual description underneath the plate itself. Kanzan Shimomura, the artist who painted the picture from which this print was taken, was the pseudonym of a Japanese painter working during the period 1873-1930. The picture depicts a scene from the well known work of Japanese literature "Heike Monogatari" when Pincess Kenreimonin was secretly visited by the former Emperor Shirakawa in her abode at Ohara, a village near Kyoto.
