Very attractive double page colour pictorial map, most of the book is made up of cartoons printed in a variety of different colours of ink, some text follows, 165pp. Pictorial paper covered boards in slightly damaged and browned dustjacket. Edges very lightly foxed. 21.5 cm x 16 cm. Very good. This book tells the adventures of Mr Science, a young boy fascinated by science, and his travels around the world accompanied by his friend Ms. Midori. The aim of the book was to make geography, history and the customs of the world appealing and easy to understand for Japanese children. This, the fourth and last volume in the series, features Oceania and the Americas. In the Australian section Sydney Harbour, the wool industry, indigenous people and Melbourne are introduced. Information about Australian birds and animals including the black swan, goanna, kookaburra platypus are introduced. There are some quirks in the text, the author apparently believing that a goanna is the same as a kookaburra as the text states "It is a bird called goanna which is also known as the laughing bird"!
The section on the United States introduces many places including New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Niagara Falls, Detroit, Dearborn, Chicago, the Mississippi River, New Orleans, etc. (When referring to this item please quote stockid 163287).
