Good copy. 26.3 x 19 cm This book on the ethnic groups of Southeast Asia was produced by the Population and Ethnicity Section of the Japanese Ministry of Health's Research Bureau in 1943. The book includes chapters on the "racial characteristics, ways of life Culture, etc," of the ethnic groups of French Indochina, Thailand, Malay, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands, Borneo, the Celebes and Philippines, with numerous black-and-white photos, maps and statistical tables included. Japan's occupation of Southeast Asia had led to intense interest amongst sections of the Japanese bureaucracy and military about the peoples over whom they now ruled. The bibliography at the end of the book, though indicates that the Ministry of Health's researchers relied heavily on western sources. (When referring to this item please quote stockid 163435).
