Zhang Tiesheng became a role model after handing in blank papers during a national entrance exam on physics and chemistry in 1973. He wrote an letter claiming the useless of bookworms and demanding his acceptance as a university student. His short-lived fame came to an end after the fall of Gang of Four and was sentenced to jail in 1977 and finally released in 1991.

Includes three appendices showing Zhang Tiesheng's physics and chemistry exam papers and his letters which were addressed to examiner on reverse side of the exam papers in 1973. A transcription of his letters are shown on pages 6 and 7.
