Red cloth covered boards lettered in black, & Chinese characters stamped on front board, lettered in gilt on spine. Head and tale of spine frayed with some loss, corners bumped but internally very clean and sound. A very good copy of the first edition. The author, a journalist, recounts his adventures as he travels up the Yangtze River from Shanghai, crossing overland from the head of the Yangtze Gorges and then by foot southwest across some of China's wildest territory to Burma.
