Sixty-four black and white illustrations, vii + 216pp, original shiny black endpapers have a few marks, a small label has been removed and the black ink mark has leaked through to the rear of the front free endpaper. Spine very faintly sunned and a few marks to the rear board and corners bumped, but a very good copy with very attractive pictorial boards. All edges gilt. 21 x 16.8cm. Mrs Arnold Foster was a missionary in China with the London Missionary Society. This is her view of China after living there for 18 years in the lead up to the Boxer Rebellion. Notwithstanding the title of the book, she describes events that take place not just in Hankow but also in Peking, Canton and other parts of China.
