Endpapers browned, previous owner signature and label on the front paste-down and f.f.e.p. Some pencil annotations throughout. Head and tail of spine frayed, hinges of spine cracking but firm internally, green cloth coloured boards a trifle worn and marked. 21.5 x 13.5cm. Archibald Little went to China to join a German company as a tea tester and in the end spent most of his life there. He was the author of a number of works on China including 'Through the Yangtse Gorges'. The present work is divided into four sections - Trade and Politics, Travel, Drama and Legend and Religion and Philosophy and includes chapters on Western China: Its Products and Trade; British Trade with China: The Value of Tibet to England; The Romance of Chinese Travel; The Dangers of the Upper Yangtse; Yachting in the Chusan Archipelago and Szechuan Revisited.
