For Japan, it was the second time since WWII that they participated in the Olympic games, the first time being in Helsinki. This book provides detailed information in Japanese on every summer and winter Olympic Games from the first games of the modern period held in Athens in 1896, through to the plans for Melbourne complete with numerous photographic illustrations of games, sports people and competitions. In the section for the Melbourne Olympics, plans for the areas in which the games would be held and images of the posters which had been published for the games are included. The book's endpapers are illustrated with images of Melbourne's stadiums. The names of main medal winners and their results are listed for each Olympics.
Even though the coverage on the Melbourne Olympics is not comprehensive, the book shows how keen Japan was to participate in the world games and how high their hopes were of joining the world community through sport.
