Black and white engraved vignette on the title page. Green stippled cloth covered boards with paper title label lettered in black on the spine. Yellow endpapers, with some slight buckling on the front fixed endpaper and a small chip from the lower corner, corners bumped and faint age discolouration to edges, but a very good firm and clean copy of the first edition. 480pp. 24.5 x 14.5cm.

The chapter headings are in traditional Chinese underlining the point of these morality stories that have been taken from Chinese classic literature, but the stories and comments are entirely in French.
