Colour folded poster, 54.5 x 79cm, a little light wear and two very small folds at folds, lower margin little browned, some browning along lower edge and some folds on reverse of image. Nevertheless, the image is very good and clean and it is overall a very good and bright copy.

This interesting and attractive chart was issued as the New Year supplement for "Fujin no tomo" (Women's Companion) magazine in January 1926. Due to the sudden death of Taisho Emperor at the end of 1925, 1926 became the second year of Showa Era. However, interestingly, the chart records the publication date as January of the 16th year of Taisho. The magazine was founded by Motoko Hani in 1903 and is still published monthly. Hani, the very first female journalist in Japan, advocated a rational home management system and the usefulness of keeping household account books. She was a founder of Jiyu Gakuen, liberal primary and secondary private schools established in 1921 in Tokyo. Her mission of rationalising housework and household finances was advocated to the magazine's readers.

This chart shows the latest fashions for Japanese upper middle class mothers and children at the end of Taisho Era when modernisation and Westernisation were spreading rapidly in the society. The chart is divided into four sections, winter, spring, summer and autumn. The fashion is predominantly Western influenced in design and colour with drop waist dresses, cloche hats and short bobbed hair styles. By the 1920s, women had more opportunities to go out on their own, or with their children socially, so the fancier style of some of the clothes would aimed to appeal to the magazine's readership.
