This 1940 tourist guide of Mukden (Shenyang) is designed for Japanese visitors to the city. It provides quite detailed information about the history, population and major landmarks of this historic city, but with a heavy emphasis on the impact of the Japanese presence in Manchuria (despite the cover, which features an image of a glamourous Chinese woman standing beside a statue from the Qing tombs).

Its account of local landmarks begins with a description of the Shinto Mukden Shrine constructed by the Japanese in the 1920s, before going on to describe Chinese and other temples and historical sites such as the Manchu Imperial Palace. The central section of the pamphlet provides an illustrated guide to tour bus routes around the city (with map and prices), which gives a good sense of the way in which Japanese visitors to Manchuria viewed the city. The two tours on offer took them first from Mukden Station to the large bullet-shaped memorial built in 1906 to commemorate Japanese soldiers killed in the area during the Russo-Japanese War, and then to one of the city's hospital / welfare facilities. Although the itineraries include some Chinese historical sites such as the Zhao Mausoleum, most of the stopping points are associated with Japan's 1904-1905 conflict with Russia, and both end at the Shinto Shrine.

The booklet also includes a pictorial map of Mukden; tourist information on major local festivals; information about dance-halls, cafes and mahjong parlours; a list of appropriate souvenirs; a short vocabulary of the "Manchu language" (i.e. Chinese) and an advertisement for the Mukden Tourism Association Centre.
