Packed with black and white photographic illustrations, colour plates include full page plate of flags, images of aircraft flying and troops marching, one tipped-in colour plate, a folding colour plate shows a scene from the Sino-Japanese War, 37.5 x 27 cm, gold embossed card upper cover, cord ties, protective brown card cover with paper title label, neat name of the donor in ink inside upper cover with ink slightly offset onto opposite leaf, lower corners bumped, card protective cover worn with a little loss.
The book covers the mythological period of Empress Jingu and the Mongolian attacks on Japan in the 13th century, but puts most emphasis on the modern period, particularly Showa Era and the war in China. Numerous photographic illustrations of Emperor Hirohito as the supreme commander are included. Numerous photographic records of the China-Japan war in the 1930s is chronologically displayed throughout the book with some interpretive essays at the end. Photographic images of the Japanese fighting in Nanjing, Shanghai, and Wuhan are included. Includes portraits of numerous members of the royal family dressed in military uniforms as well as historically important Army commanders.
