[Illustrated Japanese Folk Music Sugoroku Game].
東京. [Tokyo]. 博文館. [Hakubunkan]. 昭和 3 [ 1928]. Stock ID #171703 This colourful illustrated music related sugoroku was issued as a supplement in the first issue of the newly published magazine, Asahi. The theme of the game, Japanese local folk songs, also includes a song from Korea, the lyrics of which feature the Yalu River and Mt Baekdu. The game starts with Kusatsu-bushi from Gunma Prefecture and finishes with Okesa-bushi from Sado Island, covering in total 39 different folk songs. Each song is presented with its words and an illustration by the popular artist Kawahara Kunio (1905-1988). As the game was published in 1928 before Japan became more nationalistic and militaristic the peaceful theme is not influenced by the propaganda messaging which comes into similar games only a few years later.
