This report contains a comprehensive ethnographic report on Tsou (Cou) people one of the Indigenous peoples of Taiwan. They live in the southern highland of Taiwan. The report was produced by Kojima Yoshimichi after his research in 1916-17. The topics which are covered include folk legends, physiology, language religion, kinship, personalities, social structure and marriage. The work includes a detailed folding map and several photographic illustrations showing the Tsou people's costumes and dwellings at the time of research. One photograph shows school children in Western clothes with their teachers.

After Taiwan became a colony of Japan in 1895, Indigenous peoples in Taiwan resisted Japanese control strongly. The Japanese government felt it was necessary to carry out anthropological research on the various peoples of Taiwan and this report was part of the research.
