London. His Majesty's Stationery Office. 1914. Stock ID #173702

Parliamentary report, folding map of "Netherlands India" with an inset map of Australia (Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, 1914), 46 pp + plain title wrappers, stab sewn, 24.4 x 15.5cm occasional toning, map spotted along the central fold and at the margins, a single library stamp (University of Oxford) to the title wrapper. A very good copy.

A comprehensive report. It includes mention of the Colonial Exhibition to be held at Samarang to "be opened on August 13 1914...China and Japan will erect pavilions and Western Australia has offcially announced that it will take part". The Exhibition was to be on an extensive scale, the largest seen in Asia. It broadcast progress and modernity at a time of flux and international conflict. The prosperity reported in the present Paper was to continue. War was to offer new economic properity for the neutral colony: until the bite of trade restrictions, the war at sea, and a worldwide lack of tonnage caused export opportunities to dwindle together with the challenging political reality of an emerging Nationalist movement.
