Four House of Commons Command Papers, one large folding chart, tables, 74, 15, 19, 20 pp, 24.3 x 15.5 cm, edge wear and discolouration, neat inked stamp of the Unversity of Hull Library to the front wrapper of each of the Reports, in very good condition. Accompanied by official letter confirming the de-acquisition of these reports.

The main Report by J.W. Jamieson, Attaché to the British Legation notes that "Disappointment is writ large all over the industrial and financial record of 1903" and attributes this to "unforeseen...fluctuations in sterling exchange, a falling off in the volume of her exports and the inevitable contraction of business...". The Report includes a large folding chart detailing the fluctuations of currency exchange of sterling as against the Shanghai Tael. Sold with Reports for Amoy (Xiamen), Chungking (Chongqing) and Foochow (Fuzhou).
