The three special issues on Japanese wedding customs contain collections of essays on unusual and curious marriage customs found in various periods and regions in Japan. Some of the customs described were practiced by peasants in the countryside, while others were customs observed by the rich and famous, including aristocrats and shoguns. The issues discuss customs practiced right through to the time of publication, the last of these issues ending with a Christian wedding at church.
