2 volumes only. Black and white wood block print illustrations in each volume. Volume 3: 28 double folded leaves; Volume 4: 26 double folded leaves, 24.5 x 17.8 cm, paper covered covers bound Japanese style 4 hole stab binding. Covers worn and soiled and title labels a little chipped. Stitching of volume 4 has been broken and retied so still firm.

These two volumes from the mid-Edo period were issued to teach various moral and virtues on the family and society. These textbooks appear to be related to Shin-gaku (Study of Mind), which became very popular in the 18th century Japan. The volumes include many illustrations designed to make the teachings more accessible to the general public. Teachings include: respecting elders and parents, restricting luxuries, restraining lust, and virtues for women in family life and some of them are narrated with historical episodes.
