Colour folding pictorial map, 53 x 38.6 cm, legend references aerial attacks, bombing, and occupied areas, three small fold splits neatly repaired on the verso, a few small pin-sized holes to the map and pin-holes to the outer margins (from previous display), a lower corner with marginal loss, edges worn and a little ragged, paper toned and dusty, but in good condition.

This colourful pictorial map was a supplement to "Shogaku 5-nensei" (The Fifth Year Primary Student) magazine for March 1938. This monthly educational magazine was founded in 1922 had wide popular circulation. The China Incident (the Marco Polo Bridge Incident) took place in July 1937 and triggered the Sino-Japanese War. By the time this map was published for 11 year old primary school pupils, fighting had spread widely in China. Amidst the innocuous symbols illustrating agricultural and mineral production are those also recording aerial bombings.
