Colour folding maps printed on both sides of a single lightly browned and foxed sheet, 54 x 39 cm. On one side there is a Map of Asia and the South Seas: scale 1:26000000, inset chart and on the reverse a Map of Europe: scale 1:1500000, also with an inset map showing the region within broader Europe. A few small repaired tears at margins and tiny holes at folds. A fair copy of an interesting map.

A very interesting pair of Japanese Second World War maps which were issued as a supplement to the magazine Kingu キング (vol.16, no.8) issued on the 1st of July 1940. The magazine was very popular amongst the general public, boasting a print run of 1.5 million copies at its peak in the late 1920s and was still popular in the 1940s.

The map of the Pacific depicts a large area highlighted by a red line indicating the Japanese mandate islands, except for Guam, which was a US territory. A smaller highlighted region to the west between Vietnam and the Philippines shows the Spratly Islands, the subject of a territorial dispute which still rages to this day. The Japanese occupied area in China is coloured in red. The inset chart at the lower left gives information on European colonies in Asia, including the Dutch East Indies, and the Philippines.

On the reverse of the sheet, the map of the Western Front shows the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Rhineland, and the north-eastern part of France. The red line along the French border indicates the Maginot Line and the red line along the German border indicates the Siegfried Line. Even though Paris fell to Germany on 14 June 1940, it is not reflected in this map.
