100 colour prints measuring approximately 37 x 19cm, presented in groups of 10 prints in 10 card folders (folders 33 x 51cm), some light soiling and occasional foxing on folders, prints very good and clean, a very good set.

These modern beautifully reproduced prints by Kojima Gyokuho (1907-1934) were originally published as a collection of 100 woodblock prints between 1932 and 1933 by Hachihodo. This collection was overseen by Kema Nanboku and edited by Kondo Kazuyoshi. Gyokuho was a young talented artist who pioneered a new style of Japanese art by engaging motifs to tell traditional stories in performing arts, traditional songs, and old children's stories. For example, the first print of Musume Dojoji (Maiden of Dojo Temple) tells a well known story of passionate female love with images of a kimono, cherry blossoms, and a temple bell, without featuring human figures. The artist engages the similar style for the rest of this collection. The colours are clear and compositions of motifs are evocative.
