4 coloured sheets of paper press outs designed so that children can construct General Nogi's boyhood house, the sheets are not numbered so it is not possible to be sure all sheets are present but it seems likely. One sheet shows the garden giving space for the house and the others provide the press out and fold parts of the house itself. One sheet has one piece (of the roof) trimmed and loose, on another a few paper trees are loosening, some browning and foxing, but overall very good. Sheets measure 24 x 15.2 cm.

These scarce examples of paper engineering were issued as a supplement in Shonen Kurabu (Boy's Club), a very popular monthly magazine for boys published in the years before WWII. The press out pieces held in these sheets enable children to construct General Nogi Maresuke's boyhood house. This collection was designed by Nakamura Seika who created many paper engineering supplements for the magazine from 1931 on, helping to increase the magazine's popularity. Nakamura's designs were quite clever since pieces did not need to be cut out, but rather, were pushed out. He also designed similar supplements for the Empire State Building and Nagoya Castle as well.

General Nogi Maresuke (1849 - 1912) was the legendary hero of the Russo-Japanese War who commanded the Army during the battles of Port Arthur. He committed suicide after Emperor Meiji died and was praised for his loyalty. Nogi grew up as a son of a lower rank samurai in Yamaguchi, and his boyhood house was a modest one. The craft shows not only the outside, but interior of the house as well as the garden and its shrubs. This supplement is an interesting insight into the respect and awe that boys held for army commander during this period.
