Colour folding map with inset map showing showing possible enemy air attack routes, four graphs, 62 x 44 cm, some small holes neatly repaired, light browning on map at folds, a little staining on one fold, soiling and marking on reverse on two panels. Although signs of use are evident they are not aggressively so, and this interesting map is still quite pleasing.

This 1941 map of the Greater East Asia Prosperity Sphere was issued as a special supplement to the New Year issue of 家の光 (Ie no Hikari), marking the 15th year since its foundation. The magazine was (and is) a monthly magazine which was distributed through regional agricultural co-ops, and the main readership are farmers and their families.

The map covers the Co-prosperity Sphere and the south-eastern Soviet Union and northern Australia appearing on the map as well. Agricultural and mineral produces are marked in red and the charts show population figures, population density and the number of Japanese migrants to various areas. It is interesting to see the inset map shows possible enemy air attack routes where bombers would take off from Hawaii, Midway, Guam, Wake Islands, Chongqing and the Philippines. As it turned out, of course, it was Japan that attacked those locations when the Pacific War started.
