[Emperor's Procession with Delegates' Names].
Keio 4 [ 1868]. Stock ID #177788 This attractive black and white woodblock print shows the long procession of a Emperor, most likely Emperor Komei, though the Emperor depicted is not named. Emperor Komei (1831-1867) was the last emperor of Edo period and father of Emperor Meiji. We don't know the destination or purpose of the procession, but, as the illustration shows, it is a long and impressive entourage with samurai on horses and 200 or more people in the procession. Those in the procession carry variety of items, including banners, weapons, luggage and even a portable shrine. The style of illustration is delightfully simple and reminding one of manga.
